Daniel Crozier’s Symphony No. 1 “Triptych for Orchestra”

Contemporary American composer Daniel Crozier lives in Winter Park, Florida, where he teaches at Rollins College as Professor of Theory and Composition. According to New Music USA’s online bio of the composer, the New York Times and Wall Street Journal have described Crozier’s music as “harmonically lush and lyrically soaring,” and “abstract elegance, structural coherence, and tender feeling,” respectively. He has received a fellowship from the State of Florida’s Division of Cultural Affairs and an ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composers Grant, among other awards.

Crozier’s first symphony, “Triptych for Orchestra,” is a rewarding piece to lend attention to. “Ceremonies,” the first movement, is full-hearted but solemn. “Capriccio” is lively and even cheeky. “Fairy Tale (East of the Sun & West of the Moon)” is a musical depiction of the Norwegian folk tale given in parentheses in the title. The story tells of enchantment and a girl who must journey to a castle, flying on the back of wind. For a full synopsis, see the link below.
